Successful collaboration with Southstar*, Omega Amen complete!

Buzzin' with excitement over the ideas Southstar* mentioned for the Omega Amen tune (and knowing that he wasn't planning to come round to mine until later in the week), I decided to waste no time in knocking up the blue print layout for the track this morning.

It began as a straight amen stepper with stabs, strings and dark sub bass.

Luckily Southstar* was online just as I'd finished the first draft.

Sequenced entirely in Modplug Tracker, I sent the .it file over to him via messenger for his opinion. I received no response from him for at least 20 minutes (which was weird). Then suddenly, he replied with an amended file and told me to check it.

Surprisingly, he had decided to edit the patterns and chop the breaks up. I had no idea that the track would take this direction! His first break edits were impressive, and almost became a challenge for me to ensure that my edits were on par with his.

I then retaliated and sent the file back to him. We decided to edit 16 bars each and send the file back and forth until all the beats were edited.

Within 3 hours the track was virtually complete but still lacked that "special ingredient"

Then Southstar* came up with an idea to record vocals for it. I wasn't entirely sure what he was going to record but within 10 minutes he sent me over various recordings of himself shouting "OMEGA!" down the microphone.

Upon hearing these my mind somehow started thinking about Dillinja's classic "Ja Know Ya Big" and the way he timestretched the main vocal hook on the drop.

I gave that a try, laid the vocals down across the track and voila! It all started to work.

After a few more hours of EQuing and mixing down, our track was finished.

Not only is this my most successful collaboration to date, but also one of the fastest tracks I've completed in a long time!

At least that's 1 track ready for our Valve demo CD now...

Southstar* introduces me to the Valve crew

Ears still ringing but boy was that Valve Sound System worth it last night!

While attending the Valve night at Studio 33, Vauxhall (wicked sets from Dillinja & Lemon D, Strider, Bailey, Bryan Gee, Hive and Grooverider), my close friend Southstar* took it upon himself to approach Dillinja directly, declaring that we had demo material for him...?!

Apparently he's now arranged a meeting for us at the Valve offices in a few weeks time. I guess we better get some demo material ready ASAP!

Southstar* also mentioned an idea for a tune he wants to call "Omega Amen" tune he'd like to create with me. Hopefully we'll get round to it soon!

12" single signed to 4Hero's legendary Reinforced Records!

Having been inspired by Technicality @ Herbal + artists and DJs like Breakage, Chris Inperspective, Bailey, Fracture & Neptune and Equinox in recent months, I put together a 4 track demo CD to showcase my own take on styles I've been hearing.

As the material was a bit abstract, I decided to search for some labels that it may be suitable for.
After going through a long list, the main label that sprung to mind was Reinforced Records.

Luckily I was able to find a postal address for them online so I sent off a demo CD via the post (for the first time in YEARS!)

To my surprise, I received a phone call from Gus @ Reinforced informing me that they liked 2 tracks off of the CD (Find Yourself / My Visions) and wanted to release them!

With 4Hero being among my favourite producers of all time, and Reinforced being very inspirational to me over the years, this was almost some sort of honour to be featured on such a label.

However, nothing release wise has been confirmed yet (and I will still need to remaster the tunes as the mixdowns weren't the best) so hold tight!

After many demos over the years and numerous months of planning, I am now pleased to announce that I will be launching my own label "Miraculous Recordings"

This label will cater for all styles of Drum & Bass and will be distributed by Nu-Urban Music.

Valve Sound System @ The Mass, Brixton....OMG!

Firstly, I'm kinda annoyed as I missed Dillinja's set (and I've been dying to see him play for years)

But man, the Sound System was immense!!!

The whole building (The Mass, St. Matthews Church, Brixton) was physically shaking. People were buying drinks from the bar and the second they put them down, the basslines were sending glasses smashing onto the floor! (it was THAT intense; I swear I counted at least 50 speakers?!)

I haven't felt basslines like that since going to Reggae Sound System dances when I was younger! Some serious power going on (Jah Shaka-style business!)

Luckily I did catch Lemon D's set and hearing him play "Capone - Jah" b2b with "Dillinja - Why?" simultaneously had my face smiling and my chest pounding!

Another highlight was Grooverider's set, hearing him drop "Future Prophecies - Nightmare Walking" was epic! (it was like the sound of a ferocious beast tearing the building apart!)

What a night. My chest really felt it though. And my hearing still hasn't fully returned, 2 days later...!
